Ruth Hood
Ruth Hood, 66, of 427 Tammy, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800
S. Osage St., with Don Woolsey, associate pastor of Grace Community
Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery.

Mrs. Hood was born in Wewoka, Okla. She moved from Albuquerque, N.M.,
to Amarillo 35 years ago.

She was a homemaker and worked as a hairdresser at several nursing
homes in Amarillo. She also was a saleswoman at Kline's department
store. She was a tennis instructor and a yoga instructor and a member
of San Jacinto Baptist Church.

She married Gary Hood in 1958 at Lubbock.

Mrs. Hood was preceded in death by a son, Rick Allen Hood, in 1985.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Vicky Carter of
Warrenton, Mo., and Debbie Fite of Amarillo; a son, Donnie Lovett of
Amarillo; three sisters, Frankie Hartman of Muskogee, Okla., Lea Ellen
Goodman of Wewoka and Judy Inman of Dallas; two brothers, Steve
Edwards of Seminole, Okla., and Mike Edwards of Wewoka; eight
grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family requests memorials be to the Don and Sybil Harrington
Cancer Center, 1500 S. Coulter; or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and
Life Enrichment Center, 200 N.W. Seventh Ave.

Kyle Ray Davis
Kyle Ray Davis, 26, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, in
Lubbock.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in SchoolerGordon Funeral Directors
Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. Roy Wheeler and the
Rev. Bob Murphy, both of Paramount Terrace Christian Church,
officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born in Oklahoma City and moved to Amarillo in 1972. He
graduated from Amarillo High School in 1990.

He married Nancy Hadaway in 1995 at Amarillo.

Mr. Davis was a salesman for Royal Architectural Products. He was a
member of the Road Runner Chapter of the Door and Hardware Institute.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Troy Davis and Anthony Davis,
both of the home; his parents, Claude Don and Mary Lou Davis of
Amarillo; a brother, Kirk Davis of Amarillo; and four sisters, Linda
Barksdale of Amarillo, Sandra Haegele of Prole, Iowa, and Suzanne
Drummond and Cynthia Hoover, both of Ankeny, Iowa.

The family will be at 3806 Kingston. They request memorials be to the
Kyle Ray Davis Memorial Fund, First National Bank, 905 S. Filmore,
Suite 101, Amarillo, Texas 79101.

Austin Sanders
Austin Sanders, 28-day-old son of Troy Sanders and Summer Baker of
Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors,
Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with the Rev. Robert Bennett of
Freedom Baptist Church officiating. Private burial will be in Memory
Gardens Cemetery.

Austin was born in Amarillo. He had been at the Children's Medical
Center of Dallas since Nov. 26.

Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Gary and Linda Sanders of
Amarillo, Bobby and Ricki Reining of Panhandle, and Bud and Suzie
Baker of Borger; and great-grandparents, Jerry and June Sanders, and
Bill and Ina Fisher, all of Amarillo, James and Kay Dickerson of
Lubbock, and R.L. and Della Baker of Borger.

The family will be at 4822 Slope Drive. They request memorials be to
the Children's Medical Center of Dallas, 1935 Motor St., Dallas, Texas
75235; or the Ronald McDonald House, 1501 Streit, Amarillo, Texas
79106.

Melrose F. Adams
Melrose F. "Mel" Adams, 75, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800
S. Osage St., with Loran Harper, pastor of Comanche Trail Church of
Christ, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in
Buffalo Cemetery in Sweetwater, Okla., with Harold Thurman of Sayre
Church of Christ in Sayre, Okla., officiating.

Mr. Adams was born in Mayfield, Okla. He moved to Amarillo 48 years
ago from Sayre. He worked as a sales representative for Service and
Supply for several years. He also worked as a wholesale grocer for
more than 25 years.

He married Leta Copenhaver in 1946 at Sayre.

Mr. Adams was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy West of Arlington and
Cindi Jones of Amarillo; a son, Ricky Adams of Amarillo; a sister,
Marylyn Winn of Clovis, Calif.; a brother, Theo Fravil Adams of
Calimesa, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will be at 2313 Pittsburgh.

New Mexico

Lois Pierce
CLOVIS, N.M. - Lois Pierce, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Pete Jones officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven
Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Pierce was born in Hardin, Mo., and was a longtime Curry County
resident. She was a member of Central Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Pierce, in 1990; and
by a daughter, Patsy Covington.

Survivors include a son, Jack Pierce of Clovis; five grandchildren; 19
greatgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

The family requests memorials be to the Central Christian Church, P.O.
Box 8, Clovis, N.M. 88102-0008.

Henry R. Reid
MILNESAND, N.M. - Henry R. Reid, 95, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Wheeler Mortuary of Portales
Chapel with the Rev. J.R. "Dick" Ross officiating. Burial will be in
Portales Cemetery.

Mr. Reid was born in Eastland County. He moved to Crossroads in 1940
to work on the Sawyer ranch.

He married Laura Mae Palen in 1953 at Roswell. In 1955, they bought a
ranch in the Milnesand community. He lived there until about a year
ago. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife; four sisters, Marie Thomas, Mary
Armstrong, Jean Whitworth and Zonelle Gregory, all of Sweetwater,
Texas; and several nieces and nephews including David Thomas of the
family ranch in Milnesand.

Esta Delia Bates
PORTALES, N.M. - Esta Delia Bates, 90, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wheeler Mortuary of Portales
Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in
Portales Cemetery.

Mrs. Bates was born in Eldorado, Okla. She married Robert W. "Bob"
Bates in 1922 at Eldorado. They moved to Portales in 1932. For the
past 31/2 years, she had been living in Arizona. She was a Baptist.

Her husband died in 1995. She also was preceded in death by twin sons,
Thomas Loyd Bates and Elmer Floyd Bates.

Survivors include two sons, Jesse Bates of Levelland, Texas, and Jerry
"Lucky" Bates of Gunnison, Colo.; six daughters, Effie Lee
Alford-Florence of Portales, Bobbie Jean Bernard, Mary Frances
Hunsaker and Patsy Melcher, all of Payson, Ariz., Jackie Brown of
Greeley, Colo., and Rona Forte of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Lavesta
Waller of Altus, Okla., Effie Corley of Slaton, Texas, and Para
Livingston of Eldorado; 41 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; and
13 great-great-grandchildren.

Lucy Lovey Mathus
PAMPA - Lucy "Miss Lucy" Lovey Mathus, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral
Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor
of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Delbert White, pastor of
Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview
Cemetery.

Mrs. Mathus was born in Indian Territory. She attended school in Red
Oak, Okla., and moved to Pampa in 1931 from Red Oak. She was a
homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was one of the
original residents of the Meredith House.

She married Gus Mathus in 1923 at Red Oak. He died in 1967. She also
was preceded in death by a son, Buddy Joe Mathus, in 1931.

Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Melear and Colleen DeVore,
both of Pampa, and Lucille Bond of Rockwall; two sons, W. Leo Mathus
of Irving and Danny L. Mathus of Euless; nine grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Rose Risinger
QUANAH - Virginia Rose Risinger, 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, in
Jasper.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church with Bill
Howard officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by
Price-Jackson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Risinger was born in Mississippi and had been a longtime Hardeman
County resident. She was a nurse's aide at Hardeman County Memorial
Hospital. She also worked for a flower shop for many years and was a
volunteer Green Thumb at the Outreach Center.

Mrs. Risinger was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Jones of Quanah; two sons, Dennis
Risinger and Spencer Risinger, both of Quanah; a sister, Katherine
Walser of Burkeville; two brothers, Dillard Rose of Burkeville and
Denton Rose of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; and seven
greatgrandchildren.

Frank Grisham
PANHANDLE - Frank Grisham, 78, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Panhandle Cemetery
with the Rev. Les Hall, pastor of First United Methodist Church,
officiating. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors.

Mr. Grisham was born in DeLeon. He had been a Panhandle resident since
1953, moving from Gorman.

He was an office manager for Energas Co. for 29 years before retiring
in 1982. He was a past president of the Panhandle Rotary Club, the
chamber of commerce and the country club. He was a former chief of the
fire department.

Mr. Grisham married Lorene Smith in 1940 at Gorman.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Weldon Eugene Grisham of Panhandle;
a daughter, Donna Held of Panhandle; three brothers, Phil Grisham of
Waco, M.L. Grisham of Itasca and Billy Grisham of Waco; a sister,
Agnes Rogers of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity.

Lauren Alexis Mares
DUMAS - Lauren Alexis Mares, 14day-old daughter of Saul Mares and
Laura Arenivar, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Templo Elim Asemblea Dios with
the Rev. Jose Contreras, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas
Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Lauren was born in Dumas.

Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Samuel and Luz Mares, and
Alfredo and Elvira Arenivar, all of Dumas; and great-grandparents,
Elida Moreno and Petra Mares, both of Dumas, Manuel Arenivar of
Mexico, and Juan and Celia Sanchez of Amarillo.

The family will be at 224 Pear St.

Ruth Black
MULESHOE - Ruth Black, 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the
Rev. Stacy Conner, pastor, and the Rev. Carrol Gill of Guthrie, Okla.,
officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by
Ellis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Black was born in DeKalb. She moved from Turkey, Texas, to
Muleshoe in 1932. She was a life and health insurance agent. She was a
member of First Baptist Church.

She married James D. "Pete" Black in 1934 at Muleshoe. He died in
1991.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby J. Black of Muleshoe and Buddy Black
of Dumas; a sister, Vivian Stevenson of Lindrith, N.M.; seven
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to the Bailey County EMS, Muleshoe,
Texas 79347.

Linda Malouf
PLAINVIEW - Linda Barbara Malouf, 92, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with
the Rev. Drew Travis, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be
at 2 p.m. Saturday in Post Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mrs. Malouf was born in Beirut, Lebanon.

She married M.J. Malouf Sr. in 1925 at Lebanon. Six months later they
moved to the United States. She helped her husband start a dry goods
business in Southland. They moved to O'Donnell before settling in
Post, where they operated a general dry goods store.

Mr. Malouf died in 1981.

Mrs. Malouf was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she
taught Sunday school. She was involved in the PTA and was a Pink Lady
volunteer. She was twice president and served as secretary and
reporter of the Cultural Club of Post.

She was a member of the Post Needlecraft Club and the Extension
Homemakers Club. She was reporter of the Federated Music Club. She was
named Woman of the Year in 1956 by the Post Chamber of Commerce.

After moving to Plainview, Mrs. Malouf joined First Presbyterian
Church and was leader and founder of the NaomiRuth Circle. She was a
member of several local clubs including Beta Delphin Study Club, the
Plainview Delphin Club, Athenaeum and Travel Study Club. She served on
the committee in the Caprock District of Texas Federated Women's Club.

Mrs. Malouf was named Pioneer Woman of the Plains at the 68th Pioneer
Roundup Celebration in Plainview. She was awarded the Caprock District
Life Member Award in 1995.

She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Malouf.

Survivors include three sons, B.J. Malouf of Dallas, John Malouf of
Lubbock and Mitchell Malouf Jr. of Plainview; a daughter, Michele
Malouf of San Diego; 17 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to First Presbyterian Church, 2101
Utica, Plainview, Texas 79072.
