Program Spotlight Eating Disorder Treatment
In this month's Program Spotlight, we will be focusing on our Eating Disorder Treatment Program.
When you think about a person who has an eating disorder the two disorders that may come to mind are anorexia and bulimia. These are in fact two common examples of disordered eating, but they are not the only ones. There are many other potentially life-threatening eating disorders that also fall into this broad category that you should be aware of.
WHAT ARE EATING DISORDERS?
Eating disorders are a type of illness that generally involves the person depriving herself of the amount of food required to maintain a healthy weight and good health or eating excessive amounts of food.
Along with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, other eating disorders that we treat also include:
* binge eating disorder
* disordered eating
* compulsive overeating
* certain co-occurring disorders
* disordered exercising
A client may also be living with a mental health issue as well as an eating disorder.
Concerns like anxiety, depression and/or post-traumatic stress disorder can contribute to the disordered eating. The disordered eating can also exacerbate a mental health issue.
At Summit Behavioral Health, our residential eating disorder treatment for teen girls and women provides structure and support in a safe environment and approaches these complicated disorders from an integrative approach. Our treatment methods include nutritional, medical, clinical and holistic services. We feel that this is the best way to help our clients achieve their goal of healing, as well as a long-term recovery.
During their stay, our clients receive individual and group therapy conducted by our experienced staff. During the group sessions, clients have the opportunity to share their experiences with other women who are in similar circumstances. Sharing with others is an important part of healing; it helps our clients to understand that they are not alone, and they gain strength and support from each other as they work toward their individual goals.
We understand the uniqueness of each of our clients, this is why we always assess and create an individualized treatment plan so that each person receives the type of care that reflects her specific needs. An eating disorder program can include:
* Mindful Fitness Training
* Equine Therapy
* Meditation
* Movement Therapy
* Family and/or Couples Therapy
* Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
* And much more!
